Domestic Violence Education Workshop

Join us on Wednesday, November 12th, from 5:30 to 7:30 at Kalishman Law for an evening workshop hosted by GAWN member Emily R. Calvin, Esq.

In this workshop, we will briefly explore the signs and indicators of domestic violence and discuss some ways we can best support survivors of abuse, and then we will conclude with a group discussion and Q&A. Attendees of this workshop will gain a better understanding of how to recognize abuse and what to do about it, and will also have the opportunity to ask questions, provide thoughts and suggestions, and participate in a thoughtful and compassionate discussion.

Emily R. Calvin, Esq. is passionate about providing trauma-responsive, empowerment-based advocacy and has extensive experience advocating for and working with survivors of abuse and crime throughout her career. In college, Emily co-founded the Women & Rape Crisis Center at Boston University. While in law school, Emily volunteered on a sexual violence and rape crisis hotline, served as a Certified Legal Intern at the UF Law Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Clinic, and interned at Three Rivers Legal Services under the supervision of their domestic violence attorney. After law school, Emily worked at the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence, training domestic violence advocates and child welfare professionals on matters related to domestic violence and child abuse, while studying for the FL Bar. After becoming a licensed attorney, Emily began her legal career at Three Rivers Legal Services, representing survivors of abuse in Injunctions for Protection and corresponding family cases. After 5 years at Three Rivers, Emily transitioned to Florida Legal Services, where she continued to provide legal assistance to survivors of abuse and crime, this time through the FL Domestic Violence Legal Helpline. This past March of 2025, Emily transitioned into private practice with Steven Kalishman, P.A., where she is continuing to practice family law, focusing on mother’s rights and survivor advocacy.
