GAWN Annual Service Project

GAWN’s Annual Service Project

Every year, the GAWN board designates a nonprofit group whose mission is to empower women as a special service project. One of GAWN’s board members is assigned as the liaison to the nonprofit group and keeps GAWN members aware of their current needs. Former service projects have included Peaceful Paths and the Displaced Homemakers Program of Santa Fe Community College.

Since 2000, GAWN has chosen Focus on the Future, the Displaced Homemaker Program (DHP) at Santa Fe College as its service project. We raise funds for the program through the sale of Woman Pins at our meetings and other locations. The pins sell for $15 each and all profits are donated to the DHP.

Members are also encouraged to donate generously to other nonprofit programs that have representatives in the GAWN membership. In 2007-2008, that included the Gainesville Area AIDS Project (GAAP), Harvest of Hope, which aids migrant farm workers and their families, and Haven Hospice. We also collect donations for Peaceful Paths domestic violence shelter.
